The most potent lineups in the 2025 DII softball season

2024 DII softball championship: day six recap

We are coming down to the home stretch of the 2025 DII softball season. There have been some outstanding individual performances this year, but there have also been some powerful, run-scoring conglomerates that light up the scoreboard on a consistent basis.

Let's dive into some of the most potent lineups in DII softball. Whether they are blasting home runs or manufacturing runs, you better have some of the best pitching in DII to contain them... because no one has yet.

馃&苍产蝉辫;9 players who could lead DII softball in home runs this season
馃&苍产蝉辫;Here are the DII softball programs with the most national championships

West Texas A&M

West Texas A&M Athletics The Buffs go yard again in DII softball.

The Buffs are the No. 1 team in DII softball, winners of 24 in a row and now 44-2 on the season. They have done it behind arguably the best offense in the division. The Buffs lead DII softball in batting average (.381), scoring average (9.28 runs per game), OPS (with a No. 1 slugging percentage of .668 and the No. 2 on-base percentage of .448) and the most home runs (76). Emilee Boyer leads the way, topping the team by hitting .496 with a 1.614 OPS to go along with 19 home runs and 77 RBI 鈥 the most in DII. Three players are hitting north of .400, while Lauren Granger has also blasted double-digit home runs with 14. Every single player that is a regular starter is hitting at least .310, giving the Buffs a dangerous run through the lineup.

The SAC attack

Lenoir-Rhyne Athletics Lenoir-Rhyne softball

There is something in the water in the Southeast that grows run-scoring machines. If you want to win the South Atlantic Conference, you better have a pair of aces ready鈥 or the ability to win ball games by scoring 20 runs. That is hyperbole of course, but several of DII softball鈥檚 most potent offenses are dwelling here.

Lenoir-Rhyne is second in DII softball in home runs (75) and is seventh overall in scoring (7.50 runs per game). Madison Primm (.448, 1.383 OPS, 15 home runs 45 RBI) leads a lineup that features five players with at least 10 home runs and seven players with at least 30 RBI. There is certainly a buzz around Emory & Henry's lineup. The Wasps score the third-most runs in DII (8.15 per game), are No. 4 in home runs (67) and are top seven in batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. Lydia Taylor (.372/.457/.814, 15 home runs) and Danielle King (.408/.497/.707, 10 home runs) lead the way.

But we aren't even close to finished. Carson-Newman is third in batting average (.373), fourth in home runs per game (1.55), third in slugging percentage (.627) and fifth in scoring (7.76 per game). Macauley Bailey is having a monster season, now slashing .450/.510/.915 with 16 home runs, 12 doubles and 55 RBI. Tusculum is coming off a rough week, having its potent offense silenced by Lenoir-Rhyne and Emory & Henry; however, it is worth noting this is one of the premier run-scoring teams in DII, slipping out of the top 10 but still at No. 12 with 6.87 runs per game. Lastly, though Catawba isn't likely tournament bound, the Indians can still crush postseason dreams with a lineup that has the sixth-most home runs in DII (58). Brianna Gallagher leads the way hitting .467 with 15 home runs and 11 doubles. Speaking of home runs, Wingate has not one, but two sluggers in the top 12 of DII with Hannah Stevens at No. 6 with 16 and Savanna Brooks at No. 12 with 14.

North Georgia

North Georgia Athletics North Georgia is all smiles after another home run in DII softball.

The Nighthawks are always at the top of the DII softball rankings, last winning a national championship in 2023 and currently No. 8 in the division. They are coming off a weekend in which they scored 28 runs in two days, so the Nighthawks bats are once again alive and well. For the season, North Georgia is fourth overall in batting average (.366), third in home runs (71) and home runs per game (1.58) and second in both scoring (8.82 per game) and slugging percentage (.650). Carleigh Knowles 鈥 who just set the program career home run record 鈥 is in the conversation for player of the year, now hitting .441 with a 1.473 OPS to go with a division-high 20 home runs, 13 doubles, 59 RBI and 49 runs scored. However, Natalie Ray and Rylie Moody can both rake with double-digit home runs and three everyday players are still hitting well above .400. The Nighthawks look poised for another deep tournament run.

UT Tyler

UT Tyler Athletics JT Smith slugs a home run in DII softball.

Can't leave the defending champs off the list 鈥 especially when they are still a top 3 team in DII and 39-4 on the season. Now, the Patriots are arguably the most well-round team this season; they are No. 9 in batting average (.349) and No. 4 in on-base percentage (.445), No. 2 in ERA (1.12) and No. 2 in fielding percentage (.981). But this is about offense and the reason the Patriots are on this list is quite impressive 鈥 they are the No. 4 scoring team in DII softball without a single top home run hitter in the division. This team manufactures runs by getting on base, moving the runners and then getting timely hits that drive them in. JT Smith leads DII softball in runs scored with 70 and is one of five players in this lineup with an OPS over 1.000. At Smith's pace, she will be at 86 runs by the end of the regular season, leaving her 12 shy of the DII single-season record. With an imminent playoff run coming, we are officially on record watch.

More to watch

  • Central Oklahoma: The Bronchos are always a threat to reach the finals, and this year is no different. This lineup is in the top 10 in slugging percentage and on-base percentage and currently sits at No. 11 in runs scored per game.
  • Colorado Mesa: It's always trouble when you have a pair of the division's top home run hitters in your lineup. With Myah Arrieta and Ally Distler, the Mavericks have just that.
  • Francis Marion: These Patriots are the No. 9 scoring offense in DII and are hitting .348 as a team.
  • MSU Denver: You like runs? The Roadrunners score the eighth-most in DII. You like home runs? MSU Denver has 49. You like batting average? MSU Denver is hitting .360 as a team, fifth best in the division. Jenna Medhus leads the way, hitting .460 with a 1.525 OPS and 12 homers.
