Tim Tebow: Heisman Trophy win in 2007 was first by a sophomore

On this day in 2007, Tim Tebow made history.

The Florida Gators quarterback became the first sophomore to win the Heisman Trophy. Tebow earned 1,957 points in the award鈥檚 voting, beating out fellow finalists Darren McFadden (1,703), Colt Brennan (632) and Chase Daniel (425).

Tebow more than deserved the honor. He put together one of the most statistically impressive seasons by a quarterback in college football history.

He finished the year with 3,286 yards passing, 32 touchdown passes, 895 yards rushing and 23 touchdowns rushing. He became the first player in FBS history to throw for and run for more than 20 touchdowns in a single season and he set SEC records for total touchdowns in a season and rushing touchdowns in a season.

Tebow was also a consensus All-American and won the Davey O鈥橞rien and Maxwell Awards in 2007.
